Associations were strongest for the rate of BMI change in early childhood (1.78 [1.66; 1.90]; β estimate and 99 % confidence interval) and current BMI z-score (1.16 [0.96; 1.38]) and less pronounced for BMI at birth (0.62 [0.47; 0.78]). Results slightly differed with regard to the single metabolic factors.

IDEFICS (Identification and Prevention of Dietary- and Lifestyle-Induced Health Effects in Children and Infants Project) is a European multicenter study on childhood obesity. One of its goals is to define early biomarkers of risk associated with obesity and its comorbid conditions. 2009 (English) In: Health Education Research, ISSN 0268-1153, E-ISSN 1465-3648, Vol. 24, no 3, p.

A continuous MetS (cMetS) score was calculated summing age and sex standardized z-scores of specific MetS risk factors. To stop the epidemic of diet- and lifestyle-induced morbidity in European children, IDEFICS will (1) enhance the knowledge of the health effects of a changing diet and an altered social environment and lifestyle of infants and children and (2) develop, implement and validate specific intervention approaches, focusing on the age group of 2 to 10 years. Second, we examined if a higher intervention process score in schools showed more favourable effects on children's objectively measured PA and sedentary time (ST).The IDEFICS intervention focused on improving children's health behaviour (including PA) at the community, school/kindergarten and family level. 2019-11-01 · Methods.

The main purpose of the IDEFICS project was to develop, implement and evaluate a community‐oriented setting‐based intervention programme for 2‐ to 9.9‐year‐old children in eight different European countries (Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Hungary The IDEFICS study helps provide information on this issue. Insights gained by the IDEFICS study. The IDEFICS study, authored by Jiménez-Pavón and associates, uses more than 3,000 two- to nine-year-old children from eight European countries to determine the relationships between objectively-monitored PA and a clustered CVD risk score. In the multivariable adjusted model, the strongest significant association with IDEFICS study participation was parental Swedish background (odds ratio (OR) = 1.91, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.48-2.47) followed by parents having high education OR 1.80, 95% CI (1.02-3.16) and being married or co-habiting OR 1.75 95% CI (1.38-2.23). The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate children’s diet, BMI z-score, and parental feeding practices (PFPs), in relation to mutans streptococci (MS) count, psychosocial well-being and children’s BMI trajectory, as well as exploring the effect of the intervention in the IDEFICS (Identification and prevention of dietary- and lifestyle-induced health effects in children and infants) study on diets of families five years after the intervention. 2014-09-15 · The additive score is defined as the sum of sex- and age-specific z-scores of waist circumference and HOMA index.

We used the a priori diet score, HDAS, as calculated from the FFQ used in the IDEFICS survey , as an indicator of the overall quality of the diet. Of note, the HDAS was based on healthy dietary guidelines common for the eight European countries that were included in the IDEFICS study, hence substantial evidence of beneficial health effects are underlying the foods and beverages included [ 23 ].
